You commented SWITCH. I need to tell you something important before I tell you what is possible — because what you have been told so far may not be accurate.

The care worker visa route closed to new overseas applicants on 22 July 2025. That is done. No new international recruitment into SOC 6135 and 6136 roles from outside the UK.

But here is what most people in your position do not know.

A transition period runs until 22 July 2028. During that window, care workers already in the UK can extend their visa or switch to other eligible routes — provided they have been legally employed by their current sponsor for at least three months before a Certificate of Sponsorship is assigned.

That window is open right now. But it will not stay open forever.

If you are a care worker or healthcare assistant already in the UK — working, registered, building your experience — you are not stuck. You are in a race against a deadline that most people around you do not even know exists.

The nurses and HCAs who will secure their NHS switch in 2026 and 2027 are the ones who started moving this year — not the ones who waited to feel ready.
