Nigerians Shouldn’t Rely On Social Media For Health News, But On Health Authorities - Dahlat
The NCDC has consistently provided life-saving guidance during outbreaks, but a major challenge remains the spread of misinformation, or what we call an infodemic. During health emergencies like Ebola or Lassa fever, false information can be as dangerous as the disease itself, as seen when harmful advice led people to take unsafe actions with tragic consequences. This is why Nigerians must rely on constituted health authorities, not rumours or social media. Prevention measures like proper hygiene, avoiding risky practices, and following official outbreak guidelines are essential. Ignoring expert advice can lead to catastrophic outcomes.
