Nigeria does not have an official, government‑verified count of how many slums exist in all 36 states and 774 LGAs from 1999 to 2026. No Nigerian institution NBS, UN‑Habitat, Ministry of Housing, or state governments publishes slum counts by LGA or by year. What is measured — and consistently — is the population living in slums, not the number of slum settlements.
