FHC Judgment: Political Parties Can Amend Their Already Submitted Register – Mato

By virtue of the Federal High Court judgment, political parties can resubmit or amend their party register. If they have additional members willing to join, they can accommodate them and leverage the court’s judgment to approach INEC for an amendment.
The court also ruled on the deadline for stopping campaigns. Section 98 of the Electoral Act states that campaigning must begin no later than 150 days before the election and end 24 hours before polling. INEC, in the exercise of its powers, had directed that it end 48 hours before the polls. The court held that the deadline must be 24 hours, as provided by Section 98.
