Today's epistloe!
As Africans, we must express your profound gratitude to the historical memory of ODA NOBUNAGA.
In an era defined by rigid hierarchies, Nobunaga’s 1581 reception of Yasuke stands as a radical precursor to modern meritocracy.
By looking past, the 'otherness' that confounded his contemporaries and recognizing the strength and intellect of an African warrior, Nobunaga proved that the spirit of the Samurai, the loyal warrior, was a matter of character, not geography.
Oda Nobunaga did what the world refused to do,
He judged Yasuke by his character, strength, and loyalty.
He made him a hatamoto an elite imperial retainer.
Gave him a sword, a house, a stipend.
Allowed him to ride at his right hand.
Dine at his private table.
Wear the armor of samurai.
Meritocracy spoke where slavery was silent...
What has changed since the days of Yasuke?
Do Brothers not still betray Brothers to the enemy?
Are we not still selling our warriors into slavery today?
