People always stopped when they saw Winston’s face. With silky brown fur and wide, knowing eyes, the little dachshund looked like he understood every secret in the room. One quiet morning, Winston heard a crinkle from the kitchen and immediately froze.

Cheese.

His human walked in pretending nothing happened, hiding something behind their back. Winston slowly gave his famous side-eye.

“Fine,” the human sighed, revealing a cube of cheddar.

Winston accepted it with royal dignity before walking away victorious.

Because Winston always knew.
