The message I receive more than almost any other: "I heard they banned dependants.

In 2025, the UK government restricted dependant rights for overseas care workers on the Health and Care Visa route.

That restriction is real, and it applies specifically to roles in the adult social care sector.

It does not apply to you if you are a registered nurse, physiotherapist, doctor, or other regulated health professional employed by an NHS Trust or a CQC-regulated hospital in a professional clinical role.

The Health and Care Visa for regulated professionals continues to carry full dependant rights in 2026.

Your spouse and children can accompany you or join you after arrival.

What is required is meeting the maintenance threshold — demonstrating sufficient funds to support your dependants — which is a financial planning question, not a legal barrier.
