A nurse received a Band 5 job offer from an NHS Trust in January.
She had her NMC PIN, her IELTS, her references — everything in order.
The Home Office rejected her visa application two weeks later.
The offer was £31,000. Nobody told her that number no longer qualifies.
This is the gap that is catching international nurses completely off guard in 2026.
The Skilled Worker Visa salary threshold has moved.
For most roles outside of national pay scale protections, the Home Office now requires a minimum of £38,700 to approve sponsorship.
A Band 5 offer in many Trusts — particularly outside London — does not clear that floor.
And unlike a failed exam, a visa rejection based on salary is not something you can resit in 60 days.
The job offer is gone. The timeline resets.
What this means practically is that the job search strategy has to change before the application begins.
Targeting Band 5 roles without first confirming the salary clears the 2026 threshold is not a conservative approach — it is a compliance risk.
Every client I work with goes through a salary audit before we approach a single Trust.
We identify the band, confirm the salary against the current threshold, and only then move forward.
Because a job offer that can't support a visa isn't an offer — it's a delay with paperwork attached.
💬 Not sure whether your current offer or target band clears the 2026 salary floor?
Comment FLOOR and I'll run the audit for you.
