Ogun State deserves leadership chosen by its people — not leadership imposed from elsewhere.

As the 2027 governorship election approaches, this is the time for sincere reflection among all thoughtful and progressive sons and daughters of Ogun State. When did we become comfortable surrendering our political voice? When did we accept a system where decisions concerning Ogun State are made outside Ogun and handed to us as final?

This conversation is not about insults or personal attacks. It is about protecting the dignity, identity, and political independence of Ogun State.

Today, many people are watching a growing pattern where one political influence stretches across states and where imposition is gradually becoming normal. But Ogun State is not a political extension of anywhere. Ogun has its own history, its own intellectual tradition, and its own politically conscious people who have never been known to bow blindly.

What happened to the spirit of independent thinking that defined Ogun politics?

Interestingly, the same political ideology that once rejected external interference and defended local political identity is now trying to export a style of politics where one decision becomes law and nobody dares to question it. But Ogun people are not weak-minded followers. “Implosion politics” will not work here.

This is why every well-meaning Ogun indigene must begin to ask serious questions:

* Should our next governor emerge from the voice of Ogun people or from political arrangements made elsewhere?
* Should loyalty to powerful individuals become greater than loyalty to the state itself?
* Are leaders expected to think independently anymore, or simply obey instructions?

Ogun State must not become a place where political authority is transferred by endorsement alone while the people merely watch from the sidelines.
