The Federal Government has begun reviewing the National Telecommunications Policy 2000 to align Nigeria’s digital ecosystem with modern realities. Speaking at a Lagos workshop, Presidential Adviser Hadiza Bala Usman said the 26-year-old framework has become outdated amid rapid technological changes shaping finance, education, security and governance.

She noted the review will address infrastructure gaps, consumer protection, innovation, and digital inclusion, while strengthening public service delivery. NCC EVC Dr. Aminu Maida added that regulation must now evolve from sector oversight to full digital ecosystem stewardship.

Stakeholders from NCC, NITDA and NDPC backed the reform, saying it will drive broadband expansion and national digital transformation. READ MORE ON ARISE.TV
