Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has petitioned the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, seeking urgent intervention over alleged systemic xenophobic attacks, killings, and discrimination against Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa.

He urged referral of the case to the African Court for binding action, accusing South African authorities of failing to protect foreign nationals amid recurring violence, mob attacks, and alleged abuses by security operatives. Falana cited reported deaths of Nigerians in 2026 incidents and over 130 citizens seeking evacuation.

He argued the situation reflects a pattern of impunity, violating key provisions of the African Charter, and called for investigations, compensation, and reforms to protect migrants.
