Legislatures Losing Independence
One of democracy’s pillars is separation of powers.
But in many Nigerian states:
state assemblies behave as extensions of governors,
or extensions of external political interests.
In Rivers, impeachment threats repeatedly surfaced amid factional loyalty battles.

That is dangerous because impeachment is supposed to be:
rare,
evidence-based,
constitutional.
Not a negotiation weapon.
Once impeachment becomes normalized as a political club, governors stop governing and begin surviv
