This week we will explain the #YasukeProject ..The Lion Called Yasuke
In 1581, a towering African man arrived in Japan and changed history.
His name was Yasuke.
He was real.
He stood in the halls of power.
He wore the armor of elite status.
He fought beside legends.
Bought and brought as a slave by Arab merchants and Christian missionaries, he was seen as nothing but cargo.
But one man saw differently, the legendary warlord Oda Nobunaga....
This is a man that the Arab Muslims and Christian missionary called a pagan and seek to convert.
Yet He looked beyond skin, beyond geography, beyond the narrow prejudices of his time.
He saw Yasuke’s strength, his loyalty, his character and he elevated him. Yasuke was granted a sword, a house, a stipend, and the rare honor of riding at the warlord’s right hand.
He dined at Nobunaga’s private table.
This dignity, this merit-based respect was systematically denied to him by the very forces that brought him to Japan.
The question today is how do we truly serve GOD?
