Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State and killings in Katsina, describing them as evidence of a collapsing security system and a leadership failure under President Bola Tinubu. He accused the government of responding with “empty statements” while insecurity worsens nationwide, calling for urgent rescue operations and a full overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture.

Atiku said repeated attacks on schools and communities show that criminals now operate without fear, warning that attempts to suppress evidence of atrocities are unacceptable.

Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters announced that joint Nigeria–US airstrikes against ISIS/ISWAP terrorists in the North-East have killed about 175 fighters, including senior commanders, and destroyed key logistics and financial networks. The military also clarified that there is no permanent terrorist base in the South-West, describing recent attacks as isolated criminal incidents and assuring ongoing rescue operations in Oyo State.
