What Nigeria needs to create a fully Nigerian-owned MTN/Airtel replacement
To build a true Nigerian telecom giant, the country needs:

A Nigerian-owned company with:
Nationwide fiber

4G/5G spectrum

Billions in investment

Strong management

Government support for:
Spectrum allocation

Tax incentives

Local manufacturing of telecom equipment

Partnerships with:
Nigerian banks

Nigerian tech companies

Nigerian infrastructure firms

The realistic answer if Nigeria government are serious wants a fully Nigerian-owned replacement for MTN and Airtel now 5/19/2026, the best path is:

Upgrade and expand Glo + Tizeti + MainOne infrastructure
to create a Nigerian National Telecom Corporation powered by:

Glo’s mobile network

MainOne’s fiber backbone

Tizeti’s solar broadband

Nigerian engineers and workforce will hire 240 million Nigerian youths and graduates

This is achievable — but it requires political will + investment + long-term planning.
