Africa CDC has declared the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security after 395 suspected cases and 106 deaths.

Most cases are in the DRC’s Mongwalu, Rwampara, and Bunia areas, with Uganda confirming 2 cases and 1 death in Kampala. The agency said the declaration empowers it to coordinate emergency response across Africa and mobilise support to affected countries. Officials warn the Bundibugyo strain has no approved vaccine or treatment, and cross-border movement and insecurity raise the risk of regional spread.

Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya confirmed emergency teams have been deployed and the agency is working with WHO to strengthen surveillance and preparedness in neighboring countries.
