Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed that seven teachers were abducted, alongside an unspecified number of pupils, during a Friday attack on Ahoro Esinele community in Oriire LGA. He also announced that one of the abducted teachers has been killed, while expressing condolences to affected families.

Makinde said security forces comprising the military, police, Amotekun and local vigilantes have been deployed for rescue operations, though efforts faced setbacks after some operatives encountered IEDs, leaving personnel injured. He added that some suspects have been arrested and victims of the attack are the government’s priority.

The governor noted that both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies are being deployed, while warning that terrorist displacement from other regions may be increasing threats in the South-West.
