Your Excellencies, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Opposition parties, independent candidates .240 million Nigerians are writing to express deep concerns shared by many Nigerians regarding the direction of our political culture, public spending, and the urgent need for stronger anti‑corruption measures.
Nigeria is facing serious security, economic, and social challenges. At a time when boko haram, banditry, and other threats continue to endanger 240 million Nigerian lives for decades, it is difficult for Nigerians to watch enormous sums of public money being spent on political campaigns, rallies, and vote‑buying activities. These practices drain resources that should be invested in national security, agriculture, and job creation for our 240 million of young people and graduates.
Our country has 36 states and 774 local government areas. Concentrating political spending on rallies in only a few locations, while ignoring the broader needs of the nation, raises questions about where these funds come from and whether they reflect responsible governance. Nigerians deserve transparency and accountability in all political financing.
We urge your administration, alongside the EFCC, the courts, and the judiciary, to intensify efforts to investigate politicians who have mismanaged or stolen public funds. Where guilt is established, appropriate legal actions should follow, including asset recovery, passport seizure, and disqualification from holding public office. No nation can progress when corruption is allowed to flourish unchecked.
Nigeria’s global image has suffered for decades due to corruption among political elites. Strengthening anti‑corruption enforcement would not only restore public trust but also improve our standing in the international community. If we fail to act decisively, other 195 countries will continue to take action against corrupt individuals who attempt to hide stolen wealth abroad.
240 million Nigerians respectfully call on your administration to prioritize:
Investment in security and counter‑terrorism efforts
Expansion of agriculture and food production
Job creation for 240 million Nigerian youths and graduates
Transparent and accountable political financing
Firm and impartial prosecution of corruption cases
Nigeria has the potential to lead Africa and inspire the world. Strong, principled leadership is essential to achieving that vision.
Thank you for your attention to these concerns.
Faithfully,
Concerned 240 million Nigerians suffering in poverty & darkness
