Politics should not be a business, but a place to serve your people. However, the opposite is mostly what we witness in this part of the world.
In my country, Nigerian politics is a game filled with power, promises, and betrayal. Many politicians remember the people only during elections.
They even go as far as mastering how to rig the process, from the primaries to the main election. All we see is selection rather than election. Then, after winning or rigging their way into a supposedly elected office, they forget the struggles of the common man and of their own people.
Some of them play dirty games, divide the people, create hatred among the masses, and care more about their personal interests than the future of the nation. It is sad how the poor keep suffering while a few continue to enrich themselves with public funds.
Nigeria is blessed with great people and rich resources, but greed, corruption, and selfish leadership keep holding the country back. One day, the voices of the people will become stronger than money and political manipulation. My wish is to see Nigeria rise with leaders who truly care for the citizens and the future of the nation.
More importantly, I want to see Nigerians refuse to be divided by religion, ethnicity, tribe, or political party. I hope to witness this transformation in my lifetime, so help me God.
Sadly, a friend of mine was recently kidnapped and killed; he was the breadwinner of his family. If Nigeria were a working country, he would still be alive today.
Instead, the country has failed all of us. It is sad that all this is happening, but please don’t stop believing that a day is coming when we will all witness a better Nigeria—a better country for all. So keep hoping, keep being among the good people, and don’t ever stop investing in yourself. Be a blessing to humanity.
