Perhaps it's only in politics that supposed servants of the people cajole, beg, bribe, fight and occasionally even kill opponents (or their supporters) to be given the opportunity to serve the people (the supposed masters).

Who, ordinarily, wants to be a servant, let alone fight to be recruited as one?
