🚨🇪🇸 Chelsea club sources are calling this the “next phase” of their project but, given Xabi Alonso’s broader remit, this marks a shift. The manager is firmly at the heart of the club’s direction, his authority made clear from the outset.

Chelsea have recognised the need for aura, a clear lesson taken from Liam Rosenior’s tenure, with the inexperienced manager drowning in the role he was dismissed from after only 106 days. The playing squad needed a statement appointment to allay disillusionment and reinforce the view that the club can rebound quickly from this year’s failures.

The expectation is that Chelsea, to improve the squad in the short-term, will seek at least three new additions this summer. But what is notable is the emphasis on the importance of adding good characters within the dressing room.
