Your Excellencies, Esteemed President Tinubu, Leaders of Opposition Parties, Independent Candidates, Members of the Judiciary and EFCC, Nigerian Political Stakeholders, 240 million Nigerians are writing to express a deep and urgent concern shared by 240 million of Nigerians: the persistent lack of accountability for politicians accused of stealing public funds. Nigeria cannot progress if individuals facing credible allegations of corruption continue to contest for public office, hold positions of power, or influence national decisions.
Any Nigerian politician — whether president, vice president, governor, senator, minister, or elite — who has been accused of stealing taxpayers’ money must not be allowed to run for office until their cases are fully resolved. Those found guilty must be jailed, their assets seized, and their passports withdrawn to prevent flight from justice.
If our courts and institutions fail to enforce accountability, the international community will inevitably step in. Over 195 countries have mechanisms to act against financial crimes, and Nigeria risks global embarrassment if corrupt leaders are not held responsible at home.
Meanwhile, 240 million of Nigerian youths face daily arrests, harassment, and imprisonment killed daily over minor or unfounded allegations. It is unjust that young Nigerians are punished harshly while politicians accused of far greater crimes are rewarded with positions of power. All innocent youths imprisoned over baseless or petty charges must be released, and the justice system must apply the same standard to corrupt politicians and leaders
Nigeria cannot move forward unless corruption is confronted boldly and consistently. The future of over 240 million Nigerians depends on a justice system that protects 240 million Nigerians, not the powerful.
Respectfully we urge you to take decisive action.
Faithfully,
Concerned 240 million Nigerians suffering in poverty & darkness
