What if we're just an anthill?

Right now, somewhere in a forest, an ant colony is building something extraordinary.

Engineering. Problem-solving. Communicating in a language we can barely decode.

And they have zero awareness that you exist.

Not because you're hiding.
Because the scale difference makes mutual awareness almost impossible.

Here's what that means for us:

The Milky Way has 400 billion stars.
On Earth alone there are 20 quadrillion ants — millions of colonies that will never interact.

The odds that we are the only conscious, building civilisation in all of that vastness?

Almost zero.

So why the silence?

Maybe because we're looking for the wrong signals.
Maybe because we don't yet have the tools to perceive what's there.
Maybe — we are simply one anthill among millions. Quietly building. Quietly thriving.

And something, somewhere, is watching with the same quiet wonder we feel when we kneel down and watch the ants.

The most humbling thought in science isn't that we might be alone.

It's that we might be surrounded — and simply not evolved enough yet to know it.
