Your Excellencies, Esteemed Leaders of the Opposition Parties, Independent Candidates, the Judiciary, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), 240 million Nigerians are writing to express deep concern over recent verified reports indicating that approximately ₦5,034,077,063 was spent on renovating the Lagos residence of Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2024. In a country where over 240 million Nigerians face daily hardship — including lack of electricity, food insecurity, unemployment, and inadequate public services — such an expenditure raises urgent questions that demand transparent investigation.

If the opposition, the courts, and the EFCC are truly committed to fighting corruption and protecting the public interest, this matter cannot be ignored. Funds of this magnitude could have built free hospitals, affordable housing, improved agricultural infrastructure, strengthened education, or even contributed to reducing Nigeria’s debt burden. Instead, they appear to have been directed toward luxury at a time when millions of Nigerians struggle to survive.

If the EFCC and the courts fail to act decisively, the international community — including over 195 countries — will eventually scrutinize such expenditures, especially where public funds are involved. Nigeria cannot afford further reputational damage, nor can 240 million Nigerians continue to bear the consequences of mismanaged resources.

We urge all responsible institutions to investigate this matter thoroughly, recover any misused funds, and ensure accountability at the highest levels of government. Nigerians deserve leadership that prioritizes development, agriculture, food security, and essential public services over personal comfort and extravagance.

The suffering of 240 million Nigerian people is real for decades. The time for action is now. No lies, no slogans respectfully
Faithfully,
Concerned 240 million Nigerians suffering in poverty & darkness
