Your Excellencies, Esteemed Presidents Tinubu and Trump, 240 million Nigerians are writing to express deep concern about the conflicting statements issued regarding the alleged killing of an ISIS/ISWAP commander. This matter is not trivial. It concerns the lives of 240 million Nigerians, the integrity of counterterrorism operations, and the credibility of national leadership.

When leaders make public claims about security operations, those statements must be grounded in verifiable data and evidence. In this case, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters had already announced the death of the same commander in 2024. Repeating or endorsing information that contradicts official military records undermines public trust and creates confusion around issues of national security.

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has pointed out these discrepancies, and available verified sources support his position. Accuracy is not optional when discussing matters involving the lives and safety of 240 million Nigerians

Falana’s claim aligns with official Nigerian military records.

Trump’s claim contradicts those records.

Tinubu repeated Trump’s claim, making his statement factually incorrect as well.

Therefore, Falana is telling the truth, and Trump’s claim is false according to all verified sources.
