Your Excellencies and Esteemed Court Members, 240 million Nigerians are writing to express our concerns regarding the recent sentencing of a social media user for spreading misinformation about the child of two public figures. While we fully agree that protecting children is a universal priority and a responsibility shared across 195 countries 54 African continents, we are troubled by the broader implications of this decision.

When courts appear to act swiftly in cases involving public figures yet struggle to demonstrate the same urgency in addressing violent groups such as boko haram since 1999 until now in 2026 still killing Nigerians every day with no justice, it raises difficult questions about consistency and priorities. Many observers globally both within Nigeria and internationally, are watching these developments closely and have been complaining about the Nigerian justice system for decades no country is perfect kindly do the needful

Respectfully our intention is not to undermine the importance of safeguarding minors or combating harmful misinformation. Rather, it is to urge the judiciary to apply the same level of determination and focus to cases involving threats to national security and the safety of 240 million Nigerians

A justice system earns public trust when it is seen as balanced, fair, and equally committed to all forms of harm—whether digital or physical. We respectfully ask that the courts continue to uphold these principles and demonstrate that all threats to society are treated with equal seriousness.
