Kuhiyep had been in prison for five years over a robbery case. Back in his village, farming season had arrived again, and his aged father, Kuland, was struggling to work the family farm alone.
One day, Kuland wrote to his son:
“My dear son, your absence has left a big gap in this family. If you were here, you would have helped me till the land beside the market square while I handled the rest.”
Kuhiyep replied:
“Dear Daddy, please don’t touch that land beside the market square. That’s where I buried the money I stole from the bank. When I finish serving my sentence, I’ll come back for it.”
As usual, the prison officials read the letter before sending it out. Shocked, they secretly rushed to the farm and dug up the entire land searching for the money — but found nothing.
A few days later, Kuhiyep sent another letter to his father:
“Dear Daddy, you can now go and plant your crops on the land. That’s the best farming help I could give you from prison!”
