When Everything goes blank..
OlasunkanmiSanusi
Now, people often confuse blankness with boredom. Trust me, there’s nothing boring about staring into the abyss of your own mind, waiting for a single usable thought to return from whatever coffee break it’s taking in the cosmos.
Sometimes this blankness is the aftermath of mental overdrive,an overflow of brilliance, if you will. Other times, it’s like my brain hits the ‘buffering’ symbol and never quite resumes the program. Some of my wicked 😀friends have generously suggested that it’s the slow creep of “age” showing its hand. Ha! I reject that diagnosis with all the youthful rebellion of a toddler refusing bedtime. I’ve been going blank long before the threat of grey hair.
Listen, the idea doesn’t die. No. It stays there. Flickering. Like a faulty light bulb in the attic of your brain; on, off, on, off, taunting you with the ghost of brilliance.
But here’s the beautiful irony.I’ve found peace in letting go.In that peace, I often stumble upon the magic again, maybe not in the same form, but close enough to build something new.
So I keep travelling with my mind wide open,my heart tuned in through this magnificent maze of thoughts.
Ironically, my blank moments show up uninvited, right at the peak of my creative impulses. One second, I’m flooded with genius, concepts flying around like hyperactive kids at a birthday party and the next, I’m stuck trying to catch just one of them. It’s like chasing butterflies with a net made of fog.
