Your Excellencies 240 million Nigerians are writing to express deep concern over the recent reports that doctors, nurses, and other medical staff at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital were allegedly assaulted, arrested, and detained by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). These events have already triggered an indefinite strike declared by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Akwa Ibom State.

With a nation of over 240 million Nigerians, our healthcare workers are indispensable. When those responsible for saving lives are subjected to intimidation or unlawful arrest, the consequences extend far beyond the individuals involved. It threatens the stability of our healthcare system and endangers the lives of ordinary Nigerians who depend on these professionals daily.

It is difficult to understand why EFCC operatives would target medical personnel instead of focusing on the pressing security threats that have plagued Nigeria for decades. Groups like boko haram have been responsible for widespread violence and loss of life since 1999, yet the nation continues to struggle with insecurity. Redirecting attention and resources toward combating terrorism and protecting Nigerians would better serve the national interest.

We respectfully urge your office and the EFCC leadership to investigate this incident thoroughly, ensure accountability where necessary, and take steps to restore trust between security agencies and healthcare workers. Protecting those who protect our health is essential for the well-being of our state and our country. We demand the doctors be released Asap with no harm to them if they commit crimes take them to court there must be due process EFCC cannot be judge and jury at the same time
