Corruption and waste swallowed the money
Stolen and misused funds:
Huge chunks of oil revenue and borrowed money have been lost to corruption, inflated contracts, ghost projects, and political patronage instead of roads, power, schools, and industries.

High cost of governance:
Politicians and top officials live large—convoys, allowances, bloated offices—while public investment in health, education, and infrastructure stays low.

So even when money enters the system, it doesn’t translate into jobs or better living.

Borrowing without real development 240 million Nigerians being asking for decades where the money is and the Nigerian government past and present, they keep borrowing. While Nigeria still in darkness & poverty still paying light bills for decades

Debt used to plug holes, not build wealth:
A lot of loans are used to pay salaries, subsidies, and recurrent expenses, not to build productive assets that generate future income like power plants, rail, factories, or strong schools

Poor project execution:
Even when loans are tied to projects, many are abandoned, poorly executed, or looted. So, Nigeria carries the debt, but not the benefit.

Result:
More debt, same poverty, same darkness. This must change now 5/12/2026
