🚨 Initial talks with Xabi Alonso. have been seen as ‘cautiously encouraging’, but it is understood that the process of finding a permanent successor to Liam Rosenior is still at an early stage and Chelsea are NOT close to agreeing a deal with a preferred candidate. Chelsea hold talks with Alonso — but also contact Iraola and Silva.

It is thought that any formal approach for Xabi Alonso by Chelsea would be helped by the lack of competition they face for the Spaniard, given the expectation that Liverpool are likely to stick with Arne Slot, as it stands. Alonso remains a popular figure at Anfield.

Chelsea are speaking to other possible contenders and their representatives, with names on their shortlist including Alonso, Iraola and Silva. Filipe Luís is another name that has been discussed internally, while there is thought to be one other, as yet unnamed, candidate.
