Iron administration in pigs, particularly piglets, is a standard practice in swine production to prevent iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Piglets are born with very low iron reserves, and sow’s milk is naturally low in iron (about 1–1.5 mg per liter), providing only a small fraction of their daily needs (typically 7–16 mg/day depending on growth rate.
