Tail docking (cutting off part of a piglet’s tail) is a common practice in commercial pig farming, primarily to prevent tail biting—a harmful behavior where pigs chew on each other’s tails. This behavior stems from stress, boredom, overcrowding, poor ventilation, lack of enrichment, or dietary issues in intensive systems.

Note: this practice is banned in some regions but still practiced by 97% of farmers.
