Subject: Towards a New Era of Partnership: Reflections on your Visit to Kenya
Dear President Macron,
As you visit Kenya, we welcome the opportunity for a renewed dialogue between France and the African continent. Your presence here comes at a pivotal moment when the relationship between France and African nations is undergoing a profound transformation.
To ensure this visit results in meaningful progress, we encourage you to address the following pillars of our shared experience with sincerity and "good intentions":
From Paternalism to Partnership: We look forward to a transition away from the historical "Françafrique" model. Our hope is for a relationship defined by mutual respect for sovereignty, where African nations are seen not as a sphere of influence, but as equal partners in global governance.
Economic Sovereignty and Reform: The conversations regarding the CFA Franc and financial structures remain central to our aspirations. We urge you to support African-led initiatives for monetary independence and fair-trade practices that empower local industries rather than focusing solely on resource extraction.
Security and Youth Aspirations: There is a growing desire among Africa’s youth for home-grown security solutions. We ask that France’s involvement on the continent shifts from military intervention toward supporting African-led stability and investing in the entrepreneurial energy of our young population.
Cultural Exchange without Assimilation: While the French language remains a bridge between us, we seek a future where cultural exchange honors and preserves indigenous African identities and languages, moving past the colonial-era goal of assimilation.
Mr. President, Africa is not the continent of the past; it is the continent of the future. We hope your time in Kenya serves as a catalyst for a "Third Decolonization" one of the mind, the economy, and the political spirit built on a foundation of genuine equity and shared prosperity.
With hope for a transformative partnership.
And then we move!
