Your Excellencies President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr. Peter Obi, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, leaders of opposition parties, and all independent candidates, 240 million Nigerians are writing from a place of deep concern for the lives and safety of Nigerians. The recent outbreak of hantavirus aboard the MV Hondius, which has already resulted in multiple deaths and infections, is a reminder of how quickly a health crisis can escalate and how vulnerable nations can be when preparedness is inadequate.

If you are truly committed to protecting Nigerians, we urge you to consider immediate and coordinated action. Specifically, we ask that you suspend all non-essential international travel for Nigerians. For those who must travel, a mandatory quarantine period of at least six weeks should be enforced. This virus poses a threat that could be even more devastating than COVID-19 if it reaches our borders.

Nigeria cannot afford to be unprepared. We call on all political leaders to redirect campaign funds and resources toward strengthening our healthcare system across all 36 states and the 774 local government areas. This includes:

Equipping hospitals with modern facilities and emergency capacity

Providing free 24/7 electricity and free Wi-Fi/data to support medical operations

Ensuring doctors, nurses, and all healthcare workers receive fair and competitive salaries

Guaranteeing free healthcare access for all 240 million Nigerians, without police reports or upfront payments

This is a moment that demands unity, responsibility, and decisive leadership. We urge you to work closely with all state governors and local authorities to ensure that this virus does not reach Nigeria and that 240 million Nigerians are protected.

Nigerians deserve safety, dignity, and a healthcare system capable of responding to crises. We hope you will act swiftly and collaboratively to safeguard the nation.

Respectfully,
240 million concerned Nigerians suffering in poverty & darkness
