U.S. will begin revoking passports from citizens with large unpaid child support debts

According to AP, the measure will affect around 2,700 people starting this Friday, specifically those owing $100,000 or more. Citizens whose passports are revoked will no longer be allowed to leave the country.

A federal law allowing passport revocation for unpaid child support has been in effect in the U.S. since 1996, though it was previously applied mainly when people tried to renew their documents.
