Respectfully to the Nigerian police leaders in the 36 states 774 LGA 240 million Nigerians are writing to express concerns shared by 240 million Nigerians regarding public trust in the police, the handling of crime, and the broader issues that continue to affect national security and economic stability.

The recent arrest of three individuals accused of illegally accessing UTME computer systems in Delta State shows that the police can act decisively when needed. If these suspects are proven guilty, they should face the appropriate legal consequences. However, many Nigerians feel that the same level of urgency is not consistently applied to more severe threats, including boko haram, a group responsible for widespread violence and suffering and killings of Nigerians for decades with no justice for Nigerians

For decades, public trust in the Nigerian Police Force has been strained. Many Nigerians believe that political interference and lack of accountability have weakened confidence in law enforcement. Nigerians want to see equal treatment under the law, without fear or favor, and they want assurance that no political figure or group is above accountability.

At the same time, crime in Nigeria is deeply connected to unemployment and lack of economic opportunity. Addressing the root causes of crime requires collaboration across government, including the presidency, opposition parties, and independent leaders. Job creation, economic reforms, and youth empowerment are essential to reducing crime and restoring hope.

We respectfully urge the police leadership to:

Demonstrate impartiality in all investigations, regardless of political connections.

Intensify efforts against violent extremist groups such as Boko Haram, who have caused immense harm.

Work with government institutions to support long-term solutions that address unemployment and poverty.

Nigerians want a country where justice is fair, security is reliable, and opportunities are available. Strengthening trust between citizens and the police is essential to achieving that future.
