Your Excellencies President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr. Peter Obi, leaders of opposition parties, and respected independent candidates, 240 million Nigerians are writing to express a concern shared by many Nigerians: the persistent challenge of drug trafficking and the broader issues of governance that enable it to thrive.

240 million Nigerians believe that tougher laws alone will not solve the problem. Laws become ineffective when the institutions responsible for enforcing them—government agencies, the courts, and the judiciary—are weakened by corruption. Without accountability at the top, reforms struggle to reach the grassroots, and citizens lose confidence in the system meant to protect them.

Leadership sets the tone for a nation. For Nigeria to make meaningful progress, there must be a renewed commitment to transparency, integrity, and public trust. One proposal gaining public support is mandatory public disclosure of assets and sources of wealth by all elected officials and senior government appointees on the global internet. Publishing this information openly on the internet globally would demonstrate a clear break from opaque practices and help rebuild confidence in governance.

A strong, corruption‑free system is the foundation for any effective anti‑drug‑trafficking strategy. Nigerians are calling for leadership that not only enacts laws but also embodies the values required to enforce them.
