Greetings Honorable Minister Tunji Alausa, 240 million Nigerians are
writing to express deep concern regarding the recently announced National Research and Innovation Development Fund, which is projected to target $500 million annually for research collaboration. While investment in research is important, many Nigerians are asking a simple and urgent question: Where is this money coming from?

Nigeria is already burdened by excessive borrowing, and many citizens believe that additional financial commitments—especially those denominated in foreign currency—could worsen the economic hardship, poverty, and instability the country is facing. Nigerians are suffering from unemployment, inflation, insecurity, and persistent power shortages. These challenges raise doubts about whether Nigeria can sustain such a large annual fund without increasing debt.
