Fani-Kayode Confirms South Africa Posting, Denies Germany Rejection Rumor and Vows Legal Action
Femi Fani-Kayode has been approved as Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to South Africa after requesting a redeployment from Germany for personal reasons. He said he prefers South Africa due to its strong ties with Nigeria, its role as Africa’s largest economy, and its alignment with his pan-African outlook.
He also addressed reports claiming Germany rejected him, calling them “a total fabrication” and “cheap gossip” designed to damage his reputation. Fani-Kayode stated Germany never formally rejected him and that the story was sponsored and malicious. He has petitioned security agencies and instructed his lawyers to file a defamation suit against the online outlet.
The swap was arranged with Senator Sam Enang, who will now take the Germany posting. Fani-Kayode thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Foreign Minister Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar for approving the change, and said he looks forward to serving in South Africa.
