Your Excellency, Governor of Kogi State, 240 million Nigerians write to express both gratitude and deep concern regarding recent security developments in Kogi state and across Nigeria in the 36 states 774 LGA

First, we commend the Kogi state government, the Nigerian Army, and all collaborating security agencies for the successful rescue of all Nigerians abducted from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage in Lokoja. The coordinated efforts that led to the recovery of the remaining Nigerians on May 6, 2026, from the Agbaja Forest axis demonstrate what is possible when security operations are carried out with urgency and determination.

However, while 240 million Nigerians are grateful that these Nigerian children and caregivers are safe, many of Nigerians remain troubled by a persistent and painful question: Why has the root cause of boko haram not been decisively addressed after so many years/decades of violence since 1999 until now in 2026? boko haram, a terrorist organization responsible for severe harm and loss of Nigerian life, continues to threaten communities, and many Nigerians feel that the group’s leadership is rarely arrested, prosecuted, or held accountable.

This long-standing pattern has eroded public trust. Today, over 240 million Nigerians struggle to believe that the government, military, police, and security agencies are fully committed to resolving the underlying drivers of terrorism. The perception that the root causes remain unaddressed fuels fear and frustration.

Your Excellency, Nigerians do not want slogans or reassurances that do not translate into lasting safety. If the structural, ideological, economic, and security factors enabling boko haram are not fixed now 5/7/2026, the killings and abductions may continue despite isolated successes. The rescue in Lokoja shows what is possible — but it also highlights how much more must be done.

We respectfully urge your administration to champion a transparent, comprehensive, and sustained strategy that addresses the root causes of violent extremism, strengthens accountability, and rebuilds public trust. Nigerians want to believe in their government again. We want to feel safe in our homes, schools, and places of worship.

Thank you for your attention to these concerns. We hope that the recent rescue operation becomes a turning point toward deeper, long-term solutions.
