Frequent party switching (“cross-carpeting”) by politicians in Nigeria often signals that ideology and long-term policy goals are not the driving forces in politics. Instead, it tends to reflect personal ambition, access to power, or alignment with whoever controls state resources at a given time. When politicians move easily between parties that supposedly have different visions, it weakens public trust and makes politics look transactional rather than principled.
