Respectfully 240 million Nigerians don’t yet know who is lying because the court case was decided without any publicly released video evidence. All available reporting shows that the judgment was based on witness testimony, documents, and the court’s interpretation of SERAP’s posts — not on CCTV or video footage.
What the court said happened
Across multiple reports, the court concluded that:
SERAP’s September 2024 posts claiming DSS “invaded” or “occupied” its office were not supported by evidence.
DSS officials Sarah John and Gabriel Ogundele said they only visited the office for a routine engagement, not an invasion.
Witnesses in court reportedly did not support claims of forceful entry or harassment.
Because SERAP could not prove invasion or harassment, the judge ruled the publication defamatory.
This is why the court awarded ₦100 million in damages and ordered a public apology.
