Chapter Ten: Cracks in the Lie
Kelechi found the first crack by accident.
A document timestamp.
A discrepancy so small most would ignore it.
But he didn’t.
He followed it.
Then another.
Then another.
What he uncovered was not just inconsistency -
It was construction.
The evidence against Amina hadn’t been discovered.
It had been built.
He tracked a financial record to a shell account.
The account led to a proxy.
The proxy led to a name no one expected—
A political aide linked to Chief Bako.
Kelechi leaned back in his chair, staring at the files before him.
“This is bigger than her,” he muttered.
Publishing the story was a risk.
But silence was worse.
When the article went live, it didn’t explode immediately.
It spread.
Quietly.
Steadily.
Then forcefully.
“New Evidence Suggests Case Against Amina Sadiq May Be Fabricated”
The headline was enough.
People began to ask questions again.
Louder this time.
Civil society groups picked it up.
Legal analysts revisited the case.
Even those who had dismissed her began to reconsider.
Because truth, once it finds oxygen -
Burns.
Inside prison, Amina heard the news days later.
A guard mentioned it casually.
“They are talking about your case again.”
Amina looked up slowly.
“Talking… how?”
The guard shrugged. “Like maybe you didn’t do it.”
For the first time in months, something shifted inside her.
Not hope.
Something stronger.
Validation.
