Jeanne Calment was the oldest person duly verified to have ever lived. Born in Arles France 21 Feb 1875 she died 4 Aug 1997, a record 122½ years.
Jeanne lived in very good health for nearly her entire life, riding a bicycle until she was 100. She loved smoking and continued the habit till 1992, just 5 years to her death.
She was married to Fernand Calment, had a daughter, Yvonne ,and a grandson Frédéric. But she outlived all the three; the husband dying as far back as 1942!
