Nigerian support for allegedly corrupt politicians often stems from a complex mix of economic survival, deeply rooted social norms, and the strategic manipulation of ethnic and religious identities by the political elite. While many citizens disapprove of corruption in principle, they frequently participate in or tolerate it because they see it as the only viable way to navigate a dysfunctional system.
Patronage and Clientelism:

In Nigeria's "prebendal" system, politicians (patrons) distribute state resources, jobs, and contracts to their loyal supporters (clients). For many, especially those in poverty, this patronage system Modern Ghana provides a practical channel to secure resources they would otherwise be denied.
