Greetings Your Excellency, Governor of Lagos State,
240 million Nigerians are writing as a concerned Nigerians who has been following recent reports about buildings, malls, and hotels sealed for noncompliance with lift and safety regulations.
Nigerians have expressed worry about how such safety lapses could put Nigerians lives at risk. At the same time, there is also a growing conversation about how unused or noncompliant commercial properties might be repurposed in ways that benefit 240 million homeless Nigerians in the 36 states 774 LGA
Nigerians have suggested that when private developments repeatedly fail to meet safety standards, the state could explore legal and policy options that encourage owners to bring these properties into compliance or consider alternative uses that support Nigerians welfare. Ideas raised in public discussions include converting long abandoned or persistently noncompliant structures into safe, regulated free housing, which could also create jobs through renovation, inspection, and ongoing maintenance for 240 million Nigerians and stop crimes
I understand that such decisions involve complex legal, economic, and regulatory considerations. Our intention is simply to share the concerns and ideas that Nigerians are discussing, especially in light of the recent enforcement actions.
