Greetings Comptroller-General Nandap,

We are writing to express concerns shared by 240 million Nigerians regarding the current experience with passport renewal and issuance across the 36 states 774 LGA

The waiting time for renewing a Nigerian passport has become extremely long, and the fees continue to be difficult for Nigerians to afford. With rising economic hardship, unemployment, and the daily struggle faced by millions, the cost and delays have created significant challenges for ordinary Nigerians who simply need valid identification to work, travel, or manage essential documentation.

Many people also report poor customer service at various passport offices, which adds to the frustration. Improving the professionalism and responsiveness of staff would make a meaningful difference in the experience of applicants.

Nigeria has a population of over 240 million Nigerians, and many believe that the process could be made more efficient by expanding online renewal options. Allowing Nigerians to renew their passports fully online and have them delivered securely to their home addresses would reduce congestion at passport offices and improve overall service delivery. Concerns about theft or loss during delivery could be addressed through secure tracking and verified handover procedures.

240 million Nigerians are sharing this feedback with the hope that it contributes to the ongoing reforms under your leadership. Nigerians are hopeful that improvements can be made to reduce costs, shorten processing times, and enhance customer service starting now 5/4/2026

Thank you for your attention and for your continued efforts to strengthen the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Faithfully,

Struggling Nigerians in poverty and hardship
