Child Abuse in Northern Nigeria: We Must Speak Up
This is not just a headline—it’s a daily reality.
Millions of children in Northern Nigeria are out of school. Many are forced into street begging, hard labor, or early marriages. Instead of classrooms, they face hunger, exploitation, and violence.
According to UNICEF, Nigeria has over 10 million out-of-school children—the highest in the world, with the majority in the North. Behind these numbers are real children whose futures are being cut short.
Child abuse isn’t only physical. It includes neglect, denial of education, emotional harm, and unsafe living conditions. And too often, it goes unreported.
We cannot normalize this.
As a society, we all have a role:
• Speak up against child abuse
• Support child education
• Report cases when you see them
• Raise awareness in your community
Every child deserves safety, dignity, and a chance at a better future.
Let’s be the voice for those who cannot speak.
