Multiple sources show that Bola Ahmed Tinubu did make a campaign statement in 2022/2023 saying Nigerians should not vote for him again if he failed to provide stable electricity.

The resurfaced video and reports describe him saying:
If I don’t give you electricity, don’t vote for me… unless I give you adequate reasons why I couldn’t deliver.”

Peter Obi also publicly referenced the same pledge, quoting Tinubu as saying: “If I don’t give you constant electricity in four years, don’t vote for me for a second term.”

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) likewise cited Tinubu’s own words: “If I don’t give you electricity, don’t vote for me. Nigerians over to you make your decision be ready to tell your children in the four years' time why they cannot go to school and be safe in the country of birth killed by boko haram daily. Why there is no light for decades, why your children do not have jobs do nysc graduate pay expensive school fees still cannot find a job hope you will tell your children the truth vote wisely do not sell your children`s future for money, rice/beans l rest my case

What this means
The statement was not made in 2023 as a president, but during his 2022–2023 campaign period, and it has resurfaced in later political discussions.
